About Me
I am Dr Guy Maissis, an accredited Clinical Psychologist providing evidence-based therapies in online and in-person in London since 2015. I hold a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) from University College London (UCL) and I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC - registration number: PYL36535).
Alongside my work in the NHS as a Service Lead specialising in physical health conditions (in particular Cancer and Haemophilia), I offer private therapy due to my desire to support those who require the flexibility and the individual-tailored approach enabled by private therapy.
I view therapy as an opportunity for my clients to share their stories, reflect on their experiences and identify what and how they would like to change their lives. It is of utmost importance for me to use my clinical expertise to create an environment for my clients, which is safe, attentive and non-judgemental, so then can fully express who they are and I can fully hold them and their needs in mind.
Originally, I trained within a Psychodynamic framework during my studies in Tel Aviv University in Israel. Since moving to the UK I have practiced a range of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) modalities including: Dialectical behavioural Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). I also place great emphasis on exploring the social, economic and cultural factors that shape my clients’ lives and the meaning they attach to these factors. I see both individuals and couples and I practice fluently in English and Hebrew.
As part of my client-centred approach, I see great importance in using the range of therapies in my inventory to offer the most suitable type of therapy for my clients. While flexibility and range is key to my work, the therapies I provide adhere to the most up-to-date knowledgebase and evidence-base guidelines for addressing the issues my clients present with. In addition to my work as a therapist, I also provide research supervision for Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) trainees and clinical supervision for staff working with cancer patients.
